Stardock and former Age of Empire devs announces new RTS game, Servo

By FallenXE - 25th March 2015 - 13:12 PM

Publishing company Stardock, which has distributed games like the Galactic Civilisations series and Sins of a Solar Empire among others, has recently announced a publishing deal with a group of former Age of Empires developers, now under the BonusXP studio, for a new RTS game titled Servo.

BonusXP is helmed by Dave Pottinger who had been Lead Programmer and Director of Technology at Ensemble Studios, where he worked on the Age of Empire series as well as on Halo Wars as the Lead Designer until the studio was closed down by Microsoft in 2009 and where it was succeeded by Robot Entertainment.

Their home page itself lists the cumulative working experience of their staff as well as the games that they have been credited on, which can be seen here.

There are not many details released for Servo as of yet but a quick glance at the game's website shows three races; Humans, the humanoid Steelskins and the Zylos which can only be approximately described as a cross between an insect-head on a minute human body.

So far they've released one announcement trailer while at GDC 2015 which features quite a number of gameplay mechanics:

As mentioned in the trailer, BonusXP is keen to include RPG elements into the game so as to give a feel of individuality for players. As of now, there will be three game modes included which are Co-Op, PVP and Single Player which as 25 missions ranging from 10-15 minutes of gameplay each.

It also mentioned how players have to win or play matches in order to get new upgrade parts for their Servos, which are also assumed to be the main unit for each player no matter the gametype or matchup. There would be 9 upgrade slots per Servo available and after each match, players will be given the choice of wanting to keep the upgrades obtained or not.

With that Servo is keen to give off a casual and easy to pick up vibe and be a platform where RTS and RPG progression can be merged together for the benefit of the player. What are your thoughts about this upcoming RTS and of its potential? Do comment below!
