2007 World Cyber Games US Open

By AgmLauncher - 6th June 2007 - 19:02 PM

The 2007 World Cyber Games US Open took place from June 2nd to June 3rd this year. Hosted in New York City, the venue was located in the Samsung Experience of the Time Warner building, and featured nine games. Naturally, Starcraft: Brood War was one of the three RTS games of the competition, and certainly the oldest next to newcomers like Age of Empires 3: The War Chiefs and Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars.

The tournament took place on June 3rd and was played by four players, following a double elimination format with upper and lower brackets. Two of the four players will move on to the US Nationals in Orlando, Florida in September of this year. The participants were NonY, DAy, Artosis, and Red_Scorpio (a.k.a LastGosu), with NonY finishing as the champion and Day as the second winner who will move on to Orlando.

Tyler “NonY” Wasieleski’s victory will lead him to the Pan-American competition in Cancun Mexico, before he goes to Orlando to compete for his chance to attend the WCG Grand Finals in Seattle. The 2007 US Open was NonY’s first major victory in his competitive Starcraft career and he had to slug it out with former rivals of previous events. NonY was also the underdog of the tournament, and his victory at the US Open was an unexpected upset.
