Description
Lumbering across the battlefield, heavily armored and armed to the teeth, the monolithic Terran Thor is easily mistakable as the Terran answer to the fearsome Protoss Mothership as another "super-unit". It has however already been confirmed that only the Protoss would be receiving a super-unit, and that the Thor would not be a unit of similar stature to the Mothership, and can be produced in mass.
Aptly named after the Norse God of Thunder and War, the Thor stands tall in the battlefield and pours fourth unimaginable firepower, leaving only destruction in its wake. Blizzard's Community Manager Karune has gone as far as describing the Thor as a unit that can "level a base on its own", hinting at its impressive arsenal. It is reasonable to assume from the available pictures we have that the Thor will have a tremendous amount of health and armor as well. He likely does extreme amounts of damage to buildings and large units, while due to his slow speed and long reload time, the Thor is susceptible to fast, ranged enemies. To symbolize the incredible scale of this monstrosity, the Thor would be constructed not from a Factory or any other production building, but built by Terran SCV units much like any other building.
Such a fearsome unit would naturally have its weaknesses. While
the numerous heavy siege-type weapons mounted on the Thor can quickly and easily lay waste to buildings and larger units, its slow rate of fire and turn rate would leave it very vulnerable to hit-and-run attacks from small, fast units. The Cobra for example would be able to move fast enough to the rear of a Thor that it will be unable to hit the Cobra. The Thor can also not be air lifted. Unlike the Siege Tank the Thor can hit air units. It is also known that the Thor has a researchable special ability, Artillery Strike, that deals massive siege damage from afar using up the Thor's energy source. Combined with the Terran Starbase upgrade on the Starport which can recharge unit energy, the Thor would indeed be a feared base-busting unit.
