Description


Morphing from the larva crawling amongst the creep come the tiny Zerglings. These creatures might be small but they are anything but what you want to meet face to face. They are similar to the Protoss Zealot and the Terran Marines in the fact that they are the basic Zerg unit. They differ from these units in their strength though and being the weakest unit in the game, you will need a horde of them for your bidding. When in massive numbers they are a force to be reckoned with.

Perhaps the best-known use of the Zerglings is the Zerg rush. A good player can get enough of these units up quickly enough to devastate an opponent's economy. When fighting against the Zerg be certain that you prepare for such a rush. Many a player has lost as a few Zerglings deal enough damage early enough to cripple the player for the rest of the game.

One must be careful how they use Zerglings, however, for if the 'lings' attack a fortified position in a nice little column their will be nothing but a path of the blood of Zerglings. Instead, when as many Zerglings hit the enemies' line at once as possible, these weak hit point and relatively high attack units will deal the maximal damage and minimal self-losses.

Zerglings can be used as a scout or ambusher with its ability to burrow into the ground. Set a few ‘lings’ burrowed nearby a resource spot and when the enemy comes to harvest in the area, the ambush is set. Finally, in Starcraft II Zerglings also have the bonus of being able to morph into Banelings.
