I have just got my new comp and well i love her to bit but damn is she a loud ass thing at times and i need some advice on a fan controller i found on OCUK here is the link to it

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=189

im not to sure in how to install this thing or how well it works but would you guys reccomend this for lowering the sound output of my comp when it has no need what so ever to start churning air through my comp when its not even close to been pushed to its limits

so can you help me?

How manny case fans are in your tower that you want to control?

Also what type of conection is on the end of all the fan power wires. Normal large 4 pin Molex, or the smaller 3 or 4 pin type that can go on your motherboard fan pin headers?

From one of the reviews on the Controler you linked to

QUOTE
Inside is everything you need including 4 very long tharmal probes with hard plastic sticky tabs, 4 3pin fan cable extensions, a short molex cable extension and 2 additional high quality metal front covers (giving white black and silver as your options).

And now after looking at this review your 4 fans that you want to attach to this will have to have 3 pin header plugs on them. http://www.modthebox.com/review519_1.shtml

You can get molex to 3 pin converters, something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....rodid=CB-007-GE

Are you sure the top fan is intake ? You really need that exausting, hot air rises! Sit s light piece of paper on top of the case where it is.

Well you can control all 4 with that controler, it dosn't look hard to assemble.

Did you check what sort of conection your fans have?

To see if you have molex or the smaller 3 pin headers follow the power wires from each fan, till you get to where it conects to something. Your going to have to find where they go eventully if your going to put them on a controller.

Something else to keep in mind if you do this, try and have more air coming into the PC than going out from the exaust. This will help to stop dust getting drawn in any openings anywhere, as the excess air will be getting blown out thru them. So basicly have the intake fans running higher than the exaust.

What CPU are you going to be cooling? And will it be overclocked? I'll have to do some looking u on the fan, but those buyer reviews on your link are hallirous.

I can't say I have ever seent that fancy looking thing before.

im going to be cooling my intel core 2 duo which at stock is exactly 3,066GHZ and with my current CPU cooler i can get up to 3,330GHZ before the heat lvls are getting critical.

as for the CPU cooler off a few other sites they loved this cooler only problem is that a few had to take the mobo out of the comp to fit it which is a down side for me as i basicaly suck as hardware instalation lol

Which cpu? E8400 or a older core 2 ? I had a look at some reviews, it seemed on a Q6600 (quad core 2.4GHz) it really crapped out early when overclocking and the voltage was raised just a little.

This is one of the best Air coolers on the market http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct....&subcat=821
Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme, put togther with a decant fan and they work wonders. But it's expensive wink.gif

And another good review here : http://www.anandtech.com/casecooling/showd...?i=2943&p=4

If removing the motherboard for you is a problem there is the Thermaltake Big Typhoon VX http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/product/Cool...10/cl-p0310.asp

It has push pins to attach it, same as stock intel heat sink. I ran this (not the VX model) on a E6600 @ 3.6GHz and Q6600 @ 3.2GHz and it was fine 24/7. I would recomend a higher CMF fan than the one it comes with if your going to overclock.

Also the Zalman 9700 CPNS is a nice cooler http://www.zalman.co.kr/ENG/product/Product_Read.asp?idx=164

Most of them will reqire removal of the motherboard to fit a back plate to stop the board warping and cracking.

Look in control panel > system and it will tell you exactly the CPU name, also what do you classify as critical heat level and how did you test for them? Most core 2's are ok under 75C at the very most.

i used speedfan for the temps and i found some thing intresting connected to my fans which lets me put them at high medium and low (these are for the top and rear fans) there fiddly as hell and close to the fans and i dont like the idea of me bleeding all over the gfx card or mobo of my comp lol.

also for the actual finding of where the power leads bugger off to involve me havin to take my whole computer appart to get at them ( taking gfx card out dissconnecting my mobo and then un screwing it just to find them.

also my CPU is core 2 duo E6850

(edit x2) thi is the thing that controlls the fans http://www.viperlair.com/images/reviews/ca.../fancontrol.jpg

So only 2 of the 4 fans have those speed switches? You might not need the controler after all. Exaust set to M and intake on H.

Try looking behind the motherboard tray for the fan plugs, take the other side panel off.

Also Core Temp is much more pro at reading your CPU temps smile.gif

Theres not much more I can tell you. If you get the fan controler, then pull your PC apart, and you need the extensions?

Should be only 4 screws holding the Hard Drive in.
