To all current 1.12.6 users. 1.12.6 has been updated with some fixes for some bugs that have been found. Please download the new one.The old version will get overwritten, so there is no need to remove the old version.

Hello there,
I've got a problem with replays, which are 1.12.6.
1.) I cannot play/load them in-game (nothing happens when clicking on load), I have to use Control Center.
2.) In about 3 minutes of replay it ends with "Out of Synch" message. Repeatedly. Tried on "Alvin_tey vs dimon" replay from 13.october.

Facts:
I have never played those updated maps.
I've got vanilla version of RA3 in Czech language, but Control Center gives me the option to play the game in English. So I do.
At the end of OP there is said that in 1.12.6 folder (in the RA3 game folder) there should be 3 files, but I've got only 2 (config and MapsCommunityPatch).

Could this be the culprit?

If you only have 1 MapsCommunityPatch file then you are playing on the latest version. Which leads me to believe that you are watching replays that are on the older version of 1.12.6, hence the desync.

Something who i notice when i edit my maps...

If i have the version 1, one of my maps and i make even a small change but i leave it as version 1 again and just replace the files for the game it is like 1.1...

Now you have old and new version of 1.12.6, probably the first replays not working if someone has the newer version...

And maybe exist and problem if someone try to play with old one and other has the new...

That i found and trouble me at the first, until understand what happen and i transfer to you to keep it in mind maybe it is useful...

Also i make test, i download now the new patch and the Agonizing replay game from 14 October, it stops around 2' 44 sec, but the [3rd] YuisLion vs [m8s]DogKnows* #2 from yesterday working...

If you no want/or no exist space to change the version to 1.12.6.1
Maybe is good idea at least, change it on forum titles so some can see it more clearly and download again the newer version...

There aren't a lot of replays on the old 1.12.6 , hence that version is completely useless and obsolete now. There is no need for a 1.12.6.1 or 1.12.6.2, its just further complications.

Is it possible to only distribute the maps on their own without the installer?
I ran the thing and it put 2 files (SkuDefs) and 1 big file (3GB) into the location.

I'm sure an option for advanced users to put those files into RA3 would be good.


The reason is that I want to avoid giving programs admin permissions.

Yes must be download and with only the maps, without auto install...

If someone know what doing, can do this manually:

With unzip program, unzip the installer and then with big extractor, you can extract the selected maps...

Someone can find all this on internet...

The automatic installer is absolutely necessary, given the difficulty that a lot of people had in installing the maps manually.
There is a valid reason for it.

When I'm join other palyers games and then rehost for myself, I have map version 1.12.7 which doesn't havbe a map.art.tga so it's a questionmark as preview.
BUt still very annoying.

Yes I am aware of that problem, it's most likely caused by an issue when I was compiling the maps and adding them to a .BIG file.

The updated version of 1.12.6 was rushed out quickly, hence there might be some technical problems, which will be fixed in the next version. Guaranteed.

Do not play these 1.12.7 maps as they will crash.

Can't install the big file that contains the maps for version 1.12.6.
It creates the directory and the config.txt file but the big mapfile isn't extracted.
Can't unzip the file myself sad.gif . Tried several zippers to look into the archive.

Use 7zip, right-click, "extract here" and move the stuff to the RA3 directory.

Dear Chris,

I am very worried about the popularization of 1.12.x in China.
In August 2016, I organized the first Chinese tournament that makes 1.12.5 compulsory. Since then 1.12.5 has been the standard for tournaments held on Chinese community website ratotal.cn
However, due to the issues with 1.12.6, the tournament organizer is reversing the trend and decide to use 1.12 original maps for the Chinese new year tournament.
Some people told me that installing 1.12.6 will rewrite the map folder, making it extremely inconvenient for Chinese gamers as most low & mid gamers are still using 1.12. Moreover, the game crashes without notice as it doesn't tell if the opponent doesn't have 1.12.6 maps. While some bug fixes are well-justified (such as blackhole armour vs VX), there are controversial changes that influence game balance (such as IFV-vs-tengu and terror-drone-vs-Athena). Together, the tournament organizer decided to abandon 1.12.6 entirely.
I sincerely wish that Chinese gamers could benefit from 1.12.x maps. I hope people could reconsider on this issue. At least we can publish an 'add-on mod-map' version for Chinese players in addition to the '1.12.6 mod' for international gamers on GR.org.

First and foremost, thanks for bringing the issue to my attention.

Secondly, when it comes to the technical issues you are referring to , the updated version of 1.12.6 (version 2), was released hastily without proper testing. Consequently, I was unable to identify and resolve the problems before releasing.
So naturally, I take full responsibility as this was an error on my end which could have easily been avoided , had I dedicated an extra portion of my time to make sure that the version was ok before releasing.
The upcoming version 1.12.8 will have these technical issues fixed 100% before releasing, I will not allow this to happen again, rest assured.

Finally, yes many bug fixes in 1.12.6 (and 1.12.5 as well) do in fact cause minor balance changes, but not major ones.
The sole purpose of the patch is to fix as many bugs as possible, which could hopefully lead to a more polished and more refreshing game experience (This has been my goal since the very beginning of this project), so I am sure you can understand that it is my job to fix as many bugs as possible, regardless of the balance changes that may arise as side effects (bear in mind also that these bug fixes provide buffs and nerfs to all 3 factions, not just 1 or 2).

In conclusion, the Chinese community could still use 1.12.5 (the link is still available in this thread) , if you do not want to use the updated 1.12.6 version, until 1.12.8 comes out . I can also make a separate version for the Chinese Community which removes the bug fixes that you describe as controversial, if you want to benefit from the latest version of the patch.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your prompt and sincere reply.

Your efforts in improving 1.12.x maps are widely acknowledged by both GR and Chinese gamers. But we still need to appreciate the fact that popularization is an important but intractable process. Releasing new versions in a haste not only causes confusion but also makes damage to acceptance level. A late, infrequent but solid release is better than an incomplete one. I am glad to hear that the next release will be fully tested before publication.

From my discussion with other Chinese gamers, I realized that people have high expectations on 1.12.x series. The level of acceptance relies heavily on the amount of improvement it would bring to the game. People are looking forward to upgrades in the following aspects:

1. Further bug fixing such as
a. VX defence tower cannot transform after recovering from low power.
b. VX defence tower core cannot deploy in certain positions near buildings.
c. Tengus transform accidentally without being instructed to do so.

2. Compatibility
a. Players should get noticed if their opponents don't have 1.12.x
b. Players who have installed 1.12.x should be able to play with players without 1.12.x on 1.12 original maps.
c. try to make 1.12.x compatible with the new maps being developed by Chinese map makers. (They published many 3v3 maps this year, and many more are on their way.)
d. try to make 1.12.x compatible with other mods (such as Insurrection, Dragon)

I understand that these might be contradictory in terms of technical realizations, but I hope there is some workaround. One of my friends, CCZD-X.Boy, is looking for the possibility of writing a program that can automatically add 1.12.x features to original maps and maps that are in development.

I understand that all of these demands a great deal of efforts to achieve. Maybe a closer cooperation with Chinese Modder Community or programmers such as ViperMkVII and CCZD-X.Boy can make you feel less burdened. I am willing to help with coordination if needed.

Once again, I am looking forwards to a great success in 1.12.x and its popularization in both international and Chinese gamer community.
