Countering Scorpion Spam Guide

By Sub - 16th July 2008 - 23:08 PM

Scorpion Tanks have emerged once again as a very potent strategy for all Nod players, and this guide is going to give you some tips, tricks, and hints as to how to counter this swift moving powerhouse with relative ease.

GDI
Believe it or not, GDI has all the units necessary to easily, and effectively counter a Scorpion Tank spam. Before I jump into this, I will note that GDI is best known for its ground units, and despite the Predator Tank and its mediocre speed, its firepower and armor make up for its lackluster mobility. That said, you need to keep your opponent scouted, and know where he is commanding his fleets. Luckily for you, GDI also comes equipped with Hammerheads. Use them. The Hammerheads are notorious for turning the tide in a game and always make a Scorpion Tank Spammer panic.

Orcas
It is good to work your way up the tech tree fast so you can throw Orcas into the mix. It is very important that you counter your opponent with a diverse armada so you can throw him off balance and force him to change strategies. When using your Orcas, try and be sure you attack with at least 3. If you only are using one, it gives your opponent time to build up a counter. The same goes for Hammerheads.

ZOCOM
If you are facing off against a Scorpion Tank spammer you need not panic. Scout your opponent in the early game and pump out a few early game infantry to counter any harassment your opponent throws at you. GDI is the king of the mid game, and once you get a decent economy developed, it's your turn to have fun. Predators, as noted above are great against massive Scorpion Tank spam and when mixed with Infantry really pack a powerful punch. Be sure you keep them behind your tanks so the Scorpions can't squish them.

Shatterers
GDI's new and improved unit of choice. The Shatterer is your best bet in the mid game for countering massive Scorpion Tank spam. Not only can you deal massive damage to multiple Scorpion Tanks, but it only takes 3 shots to kill. The Shatterer might need some support, and to improve your firepower, throw in some Rocket Soldiers to push your opponent back.

Utilizing Air
The ZOCOM Orcas aren't very effective against the quick speed of the Scorpion Tanks, but as mentioned above, Hammerheads pack a powerful punch and should be utilized as soon as you being your tech process. Weather you are loading them with Zone Raiders or Rocket Soldiers, the Hammerheads are a must have when dueling it out with a Scorpion Spammer.

Steel Talons
Steel Talons has the most trouble standing up to a Scorpion Spammer for a few reasons. Firstly, when facing off against a decent Nod player, squishing his Scorpions will prove very difficult, and secondly, the Titians are very slow, however if you properly scout your opponent, you will be able to have your forces waiting for his attack. Your best bet would be to go with Titians mixed with some Infantry, and working your way up to Hammerheads.

Rail Guns
The Rail Guns are Steel Talons one saving grace. The Rail Gun upgrade is simply relentless against Scorpion Tanks and will force your opponent to change strategies. This isn't to say that fast teching is a smart option with GDI, rather a hard counter that Steel Talons players must utilize.
