Countering Scorpion Spam Guide

By Sub - 16th July 2008 - 23:08 PM

Scrin
Scrin definitely has a hard time facing Scorpion spam compared to the other factions. Seekers are practically useless against a large army of Dozer Scorpions, and their Dozer Blades will run right over any Disintegrators unharmed. To stand a chance against Scorpion spam, you must rely on Scrin's versatile mid-game units and support powers, which are more expensive, but ultimately are more cost-effective than your opponent's Scorpions. You can take two routes after you build that Nerve Center.

Fast Stormriders
One of the best counters to Scorpion spam is definitely Stormriders. They will force your opponent to switch over to Bikes and Buggies, which are easy to kill with some Seeker support. You can also use the Stormriders to harass harvesters and buildings like Power Plants.

Mass Devourers
Fully-charged Devourers will rip apart a large Scorpion army quite quickly. Used in conjunction with Repair Drones and Corrupters, one Devourer can outlast multiple Scorpions. With this strategy, it is usually better to wait for your opponent to come to you, as most Scorpion spammers will. This will allow you to use you Warp Sphere as both cover and a healing station, and you will be able to recharge your Devourers with your tiberium field. Using Stasis Shield with this strategy is also a good idea, as it will give your Devourers some time to get repaired while still killing off the stray Scorpions that didn't get caught with the support power.

Both of these strategies are stalling tactics to buy you time while you quickly tech up to tier 3 and a Hexapod. Tripods hiding behind Storm Columns are one of the best defenses against Scorpion spam, and the Eradicator Hexapod absolutely dominates Scorpions with its large area of effect and ability to crush tanks. If you went with fast Stormriders, you should also build Devastator Warships.

Reaper-17
Against Scorpion spam, Reaper has it's pro's and con's. They can't make good use of air units to fight off the Scorpions, but they also have the Reaper Tripod, which is more powerful than the regular Annihilator Tripod. That leaves Reaper with pretty much one option: build up on Devourers and tech up fast.

Devourers
Getting that Nerve Center as fast as possible is a must, because you will need Devourers if you ever hope to survive against Dozer Scorpions. Just like you do with vanilla Scrin, Charge up your Devourers and wait for your opponent to come to you. Once the large army of Scorpions comes your way, use your support powers such as Repair Drones and Stasis Field to help support your tanks. Hopefully they will give you enough time to start producing Reaper Tripods and Storm Columns. Once you get shields for your Tripods, you should be good to go.

Traveler-59
Traveler-59 is the exact opposite of Reaper-17. Instead of relying on ground units, you will need to rely on air supremacy with minor ground support. The air units in question are Stormriders. Their relatively cheap price allows them to be used in large quantities.

Fast Stormriders
As always, get a Nerve Center built quickly and put down one airfield. Use your speedy Stormriders to destroy your opponent's Scorpions and harass his base with some support from Seekers to kill Attack Bikes and Raider Buggies. Once you have about four or five harvesters, you can either build another airfield for more Stormriders or tech up to produce a few Tripods and Devastators. If they aren't enough, be sure to get a Hexapod and a Prodigy onto the field. The Hexapod destroys Scorpions quickly with a large area of effect and the Prodigy can turn your opponent's own Scorpions against him.
