It has been recently reported that
Bioware Montreal, the studio behind the recently released
Mass Effect: Andromeda, would merge with
EA Motive. It was noted in early May that Montreal would be relegated into becoming a support studio and that it would provide multiplayer and technical support for Andromeda, which sparked rumours that DLC support for the game was shelved.
This after the much obvious hint at the end of the game on the presence of the Quarian Ark in the Andromeda galaxy and of how it did not want to be found due to an on-board emergency, which seems to be the perfect lead-up to any future single-player DLC. Of course since then the only content we have received are the APEX Missions and
the recent patch was multiplayer-only.
Bioware seems to be taking a break on the
Mass Effect series in general, as lead studio
Bioware Edmonton is working on their new IP
Anthem and secondary studio
Bioware Austin would continue their support for
Star Wars: The Old Republic. Rumours also persist of development on the next game in the
Dragon Age franchise being underway.
EA Motive, the studio that Montreal will be merging with, was founded in 2015 by former
Ubisoft employee and
Assassin's Creed developer Jade Raymond. The studio is currently co-developing
Star Wars Battlefront II with
EA DICE and
Criterion Games, and co-developing an untitled Star Wars game with
Visceral Games.
