Age Of Empire's Definitive Edition

By FallenXE - 18th June 2017 - 03:50 AM

At the recently concluded E3 2017 convention, the folks over at Microsoft Studios led by Adam Isgreen, announced that a remastered version of 1997's Age of Empire is currently being developed. It is tentatively being titled: Age of Empires: Definitive Edition. As of now, no release schedule has been revealed as of yet.

If you'd recall, Adam Isgreen is one of the RTS industry veterans, having worked at Westwood Studios with the original Command & Conquer games, before jumping ship to Petroglyph Studios at around 2006 to work on their strategy titles such as Universe At War. For the past seven years, Adam has been with Microsoft.

Jennifer Godwin, one of the developers of the game, had this to say regarding the announcement of the game:

We have put a ton of cool new stuff in this 4K remastered version of our original game. Including all upgraded art assets, completely new narration throughout, and hundreds of new and rebuilt sound  effects! The game will include single player and multiplayer modes, as well as a classic mode for when you just need to get the look and feel of that good ol’ AoE!

Players will experience Age of Empires at its best ever: the original base game along with the Rise of Rome expansion, all with enhanced gameplay and narration, 16 civilizations to explore and 10 campaigns to conquer.
