Description

The essence of a Dark Templar fused into a mechanical casing, the Protoss Stalker utilizes the much-honed Dark Templar arts of stealth to strike unseen from the shadows. Essentially the dark version of a classic Starcraft Dragoon, the Stalker is the first mechanical unit available for the Protoss at the Gateway after the construction of a Cybernetics Core. In this sense, it replaces the Dragoons in the Protoss tech tree. Stalkers are equipped with Chronal Webs that are able to hit both air and ground units, much like the Dragoons of old. However, unlike the Dragoons, the Stalkers have a deadly ability - Blink, which allows the Stalker to teleport short distances. Available as an upgrade from the Twilight Council, this opens vast possibilities for micro-management, as Stalkers can teleport anywhere in their range as long as the player has sight range of that area, which means that Stalkers combined with an Observer for sight can easily blink up the cliff of an enemy base, devastate the unprotected economy and then blink out before enemy forces can rush back to defend.
Another attractive property of the Stalker is its mobility. With Blink, the Stalker can travel vast distances in short spaces of time, allowing the Protoss to gain map control and defend distant expansions with relative ease. Keep in mind however that the Stalkers are not as sturdy as their classic Starcraft Dragoon counterparts and should not be used as a mainstay unit into the late game.
